Bastianini: 'Fourth gear didn’t enter correctly'

An issue with fourth gear sees Enea Bastianini settle for second at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya.

The young Italian had started from pole for the first time on his Gresini Racing Team Moto3 Honda and contested the victory throughout the entire race. As always in  a large group of riders emerged and battled for the lead, often four riders abreast into Turn 1.

Bastianini attempted a charge on the final lap, rapidly gaining on Danny Kent (Leopard Racing). It looked set to be a repeat of the 2009 MotoGP battle between Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo, but an issue when entering fourth gear limited the Gresini rider’s speed, putting him second as they dragged to the line.

Enea Bastianini: “I’m happy but today was possible to win, but the last corner the fourth gear didn’t enter correctly so I couldn’t match Kent and pass out of the final corner. It’s a fantastic race for me and my team. The win was possible, but again we missed it.”
