Lowes: “The crash was a little annoying”

Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya has Sam Lowes finish third overall in Moto2™.

Two crashes did not discourage Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes as he returned to the Catalunya circuit for just the second time. Hot conditions have been a previous weakness of the Speed Up frame, but FP2 provided another chance for he and the team to improve this area.

FP1 saw Lowes set his best time of the weekend so far with a 1’47.189, falling just shy by 0.1s in FP2. The Brit leaves happy on the first day regardless.

Sam Lowes: “Yeah, a really good result. For us we know we need to work in these conditions, this afternoon was really good I think we were third or fourth overall. But in the end I’m really happy because this track I’ve only been to once before and the first lap this morning it was like a new track for me! I’m quite happy and I think we’ve made a good step with the bike. The small crash was a little annoying, but there was something with the front feeling that even without a small mistake would have ended in a crash. It’s only Friday so there’s time.”

“I think today is when we’ll suffer most with track knowledge, I’ll be able to go home and think about it tonight. It’s good that we’re fast and we should be able to improve even more. After the last couple of races I need a good result and I don’t really care about the crash because we’re learning all the time. I need to take these lessons on board for tomorrow.”
