Kent sets blistering pace in FP1

Kent sets blistering pace in FP1

Danny Kent was just 0.122s off the lap record in Moto3™ FP1 after riders followed new instructions from Race Direction.

The Moto3™ riders and teams kicked off the on-track action at the Motul TT Assen in cloudy conditions this morning. As track temperatures crept up to 20 degrees, it was Leopard Racing’s Danny Kent who led the way with an incredible 1’42.363, just over a tenth slower than Jack Miller’s lap record from last year.

Riders set a blistering pace after a meeting with Race Direction yesterday resulted in them facing much stiffer penalties for riding slowly on track. Riders now have to lap at 107% of their fastest lap at all times during Free Practice and Qualifying.

Sky Racing Team VR46’s Romano Fenati was second 0.625s behind Kent, with Jorge Navarro (+0.706s) and his Estrella Galicia 0,0 teammate Fabio Quartararo (+0.841s) in third and fourth respectively.

Kent’s teammate Efren Vazquez (+0.841s) was in fifth, with Gresini Racing Team Moto3’s Enea Bastianini in sixth. Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo), Andrea Locatelli (Gresini Racing Team Moto3), John McPhee (SAXOPRINT RTG) and his teammate Alexis Masbou completed the top ten.

There were crashes for wild card rider Kevin Hanus, Andrea Migno, Tatsuki Suzuki and Matteo Ferrari, all riders were unhurt.
