Rabat: “I pushed at my maximum”

Rabat: “I pushed at my maximum”

A record breaking Qualifying session at the Motul TT Assen had Tito Rabat secure his seventh front row of the year.

Tito Rabat was the first rider to go below the 1’37 barrier in Qualifying, eventually setting a 1’36.633 which bettered the previous record by half a second. Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) would go on to claim pole by 0.287s, but both he and Zarco have a significant lead over the rest of the Moto2™ field.

This lead is not just in one lap speed but overall race pace, with Rabat’s being particularly impressive. FP3 demonstrated just how dominant Rabat would be in the race if he is able to get away unchallenged for a few laps. The Spaniard set a run of 17 laps in the mid 1’37s with very little variation in lap times.

Tito Rabat: “I am happy to be on the front row. I pushed at my maximum in qualifying and the pace was very fast, so it was important to be in the top three. But Johann (Zarco) is faster and that means we can still improve. We need to wait and see what the weather conditions will be like tomorrow but I think it will be a group race and a good start will be key. I will just go for it at full gas!”
