Quartararo: “I couldn’t regain the lead”

Quartararo: “I couldn’t regain the lead”

A second podium for Fabio Quartararo in his rookie season as he battles with class leaders.

Another weekend and another new track for Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Quartararo as he adds an aggressive spice to the leading pack. Quartararo has been able to learn the new tracks with relative ease, often going better at them than tracks he has previous experience on. A weekend of hard work came down to just the final few laps for the French rookie. The closing laps of the Moto3™ saw the Honda rider cut through the pack, wanting to make amends for his Jerez last turn mistake earlier in the year.

Despite having never raced at the track before, he quickly realised he held an advantage in the third sector and pushed his advantage through there with every chance he got. Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing Tam Moto3) witnessed Quartararo’s desire first hand, his Honda receiving a large tyre mark from Quartararo’s bike as the pair battled in the race.

Fabio Quartararo: “The truth is I would have preferred to have won, but it was not possible. I am satisfied with the work we have done throughout the weekend. Here at Assen we have done well right from the start on Thursday. Today in the race I was in the front group and on the last lap I managed to overtake Miguel [Oliveira] before the third sector, because I knew he was very fast there. However, both he and Kent passed me and I couldn’t regain the lead. I’m very happy with this podium and for having fought with the top riders."
