Simeon: “I focused at 200%”

Simeon: “I focused at 200%”

A welcome return to the front row for Simeon, his last coming back in Austin when he took pole.

A 1’24.133 had the Belgian rider just 0.089s from pole in another close Moto2™ Qualifying session. The Federal oil Gresini Moto2 rider has been inside the top ten at the last several races but has needed to take an extra step to battle for the front of the grid, and hopefully the podium come Sunday. The tight nature of the Sachsenring means that a front row start is critical, especially with the run down to Turn 1. Throughout the season Simeon has proven himself a warrior in the races, not afraid to fight with the top rides.

Xavier Simeon: “Already this morning in the last free practice session I had taken a big step forward compared to yesterday, getting the fourth fastest time. I knew that in Qualifying the fight would have been really tight, but we made the most of the experience collected in the last races, in which we couldn’t get what we were hoping in Qualifying… this time we were determined and we succeeded, so I’m very happy. In the final stages of the session, when I put the new tyres, I focused at 200%: I knew that the front row was a goal within our reach, and it was important to take advantage of this opportunity."

"Once again, it was not necessary to make a lot of changes to the bike set-up, because the base was immediately very good also on this track, even if it’s quite different from the others. Tomorrow our target is the podium: today we have already done 70% of the work, but we have to stay focused because many riders - Zarco, Rabat, Corsi, Folger, Luthi and also Morbidelli - can keep a good pace. But we can stay in the fight with them.”
