Rins: “I knew something like that might happen”

A last corner incident gifted Rins his fourth podium of 2015 at the GoPro Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland, closing in on third orverall

Saturday saw Alex Rins (Paginas Amarillas HP 40) disappointed with 12th on the grid, 0.666s from pole. The former Moto3™ race winner has proved on multiple occasions that he is always stronger in the race, especially in the closing laps and Sachsenring proved no exception. Rins made a solid start and quickly tucked in behind Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) as the pair went about closing down the leaders.

They found themselves battling with Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing) for several laps, the Italian fighting furiously to achieve his first World Championship podium. It all came down to the last corner, Rins taking a different line in order to carry more speed while Morbidelli and Rabat clashed, both falling. This gifted Rins a comfortable third, the Spaniard over five seconds ahead of Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing) in fourth. Now with 103 points, Rins is just 4 behind Lowes in the World Championship table and 11 behind Rabat.

Alex Rins: “Yeah it was difficult because all the time Tito had a good rhythm. In the last lap I knew something like that might happen. I changed my line a little to get better corner speed and then Morbidelli and Rabat touched. This was a tough weekend with a good result.”
