Bastianini: “We arrive in the United States confident”

Catching Kent is the main aim for Bastianini as the second half of the season gets underway.

A dramatic drag to the line at the German GP saw Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing Team Moto3) secure third, his fourth podium of the year. The Italian currently has 124 points, 22 more than Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo) in the standings. Despite this comfortable margin over third place in the championship, the distance to Danny Kent (Leopard Racing) is vast at 46 points.

With nine rounds remaining there is still hope for Bastianini to close the gap and potentially challenge for the Moto3™ crown. A turn in results for Kent and Bastianini would have to happen soon as the Brit has looked strong at every round this year, especially in Germany where Kent topped each session. Last year the talented young Italian finished 11th at the Indianapolis Grand Prix.

Enea Bastianini: “Last year at Indy my race weekend was a bit unlucky, compromised by a run off the track in the early stages of the race. However, in the latter part I managed to maintain a strong pace, reaching the leading group, so this means that I like the track. We arrive in the United States really confident and aware that we can do well. In the summer break I was able to relax myself, even though of course I continued to train hard: after a positive first half of the season, closed with the second place in the standings, our goal in this second part of the season is to make a further step forward in order to try to beat Kent, who so far has been really fast”.
