Kent quickest despite crashing in Moto3™ FP1

Danny Kent sets the early pace in the morning during Free Practice 1, despite crashing out towards the end of the session.

Moto3™ World Championship leader Danny Kent set the early pace during FP1 in glorious sunshine at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Leopard Racing’s British rider set a 1’41.437 with 3 minutes to go in the session, before he crashed out at turn 10 whilst on an even quicker lap, walking away unhurt. Lap times fell throughout the session as the tracks grip levels improved, although they were some way off Jack Miller’s pole record from last year, a 1’40.727.

Kent’s teammate Efren Vazquez was 0.581s back in second, with Red Bull KTM’s Miguel Oliveira (+0.690s) completing the provisional front row. Niccolo Antonelli (+0.725s) on the Ongetta-Rivacold Honda was in fourth, with his Italian compatriot Gresini Racing Team Moto3’s Enea Bastianini (+0.757s) in fifth. Brad Binder (+0.801s) on the second Red Bull KTM Ajo was in sixth, after he set the exact same time as Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Fabio Quartararo (7th).

Romano Fenati (Sky Racing Team VR46) crashed out of the session right at the end, but set a time good enough for eighth, with Karel Hanika (Red Bull KTM Ajo) in ninth and Isaac Viñales (RBA Racing Team) completing the top ten despite crashing early on in the session after contact with Quartararo.

Lorenzo Dalla Porta on his debut for the Husqvarna Factory Laglisse team ended the session in 32nd.
