Kent: “Our pace here isn’t as strong as it was in Germany"

Kent: “Our pace here isn’t as strong as it was in Germany'

A fourth pole of the season for Danny Kent who managed to just hold off the competition at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix.

While Friday saw the Indianapolis skies filled with sunshine, Saturday saw several clouds gather overhead during Qualifying. Danny Kent (Leopard Racing) had already set the pace during FP3 but approached the session tactically, aware traffic would play a part. The Moto3™ Championship leader started on the hard tyre before switch to the soft option.

As soon as the softer rubber went in Kent immediately thrust himself into pole contention after a slow start. The Leopard Racing rider was able to produce a 1’40.703 to claim pole, just 0.088s ahead of Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo). This lap also set a new pole record at the Brickyard, beating Miller’s time from last year.

Danny Kent: “I’m very happy about this pole which is already our fourth this year. First we went out with the harder tyre option just to get warmed up ready for the last exit for a time attack. Of course we can be pleased with our Friday and Saturday performance but tomorrow is race day where we get the points. At this point I’ve to admit that our pace here isn’t as strong as it was at the Sachsenring, so obviously it will be difficult to pull away. Anyway, I feel good and I’ll give more than 100 percent to try to pull away again, but if not we have to expect a big fight at the front. However, I’m well prepared and ready for a strong race tomorrow.”
