Cardus replaces Wilairot at JPMoto

Just one race after being replaced by the Tech 3 Team, Ricky Cardus is back on the Moto2™ grid.

The evolution of Malaysian-owned JPMoto Racing Team in its debut season of the Moto2™ World Championship continues with the signing of Spanish seasoned rider Ricky Cardus.

Cardus was 18th overall in Moto2™ last year with 45 points. He takes over from Thai rider Ratthapark Wilairot starting from this weekend’s Grand Prix of Republic Czech at the Brno Circuit. Wilairot represented JPMoto Racing from Round 7 at the Grand Prix of Catalunya up to last weekend’s race in Indianapolis.

Raja Nor Zaini Mohamad Nor (Team Manager): “We would like to thank Feem (Rattapark) for his services. He has been a great addition to team and we have benefitted from him and his experience. But, we need to go on and in the best interest of Feem and the team, we decided to mutually end the partnership. We wish Feem all the best in his future undertakings and we are confident that we will be seeing each other at the racing track in the future.”

According to Raja Zaini, the selection of Cardus was again made by the management in record time. He continued, “We are confident that the inclusion of Cardus will tremendously develop the team, which is still very much on the learning curve. We want to learn and acquire knowledge as much as possible this season so that we come better-prepared in 2016. With the success and knowledge of Cardus and his team, we will learn more.”

Ricky Cardus: "First of all I would like to thank JPMoto Racing team for the opportunity for me to join them, my first ever experience in an Asian team, especially a team from Malaysia, a country that I really enjoy on my visits to Sepang GP as it is one of the most spectacular circuits and cities in the championship.

“I really appreciate the fact that I will be joining a team who believes in me, it gives me extra energy, motivation and commitment to repay their confidence through successful results.  I am excited to meet the team and kick off our new adventure this weekend in Brno," added Cardus, who has competed in the Moto2™ World Championship since 2010.

His best results in Moto2™ was a 7th place finish at the Grand Prix of Catalunya last year.
