Viñales: “I tried to push very hard and finally crashed'

For the first time in 2015 Maverick Viñales failed to finish a MotoGP™ a race, crashing in the bwin Grand Prix České republiky.

Team Suzuki Ecstar’s Maverick Viñales has had an incredible rookie season in the MotoGP™ World Championship, able to secure points in the first ten races. Unfortunately this streak, much like Marc Marquez’s (Repsol Honda Team) streak of wins in 2014, ended in Brno as Viñales fell at Turn 11. Before crashing out the former Moto3™ World Champion had produced one of his best rides of the year, able to be within 20 seconds of the leaders even with just six laps to go. The final sector of Brno requires ample horsepower and even with Suzuki’s lack of raw power, Viñales was able to remain competitive proving the other areas of the GSX-RR are working well.

Having spent the first half of the season learning the Suzuki and the MotoGP™ field, Viñales is now confident he can push for better results and fight harder on race day. The rookie is not upset by the crash, viewing it as just another step in his journey. Suzuki are still lacking a fully seamless gearbox and top speed compared to the other bikes, but no doubt once these upgrades are introduced the Suzuki and Viñales will continue to make strides forward.

Maverick Viñales: “Of course on one side I am disappointed because I crashed and couldn't finish the race, but on the other side I am really happy because I was very close to the top, only less than 20 seconds from the leader with only six laps to go; and this is incredible and a big-step forward for us. We know how much we lose with the lack of horsepower and therefore the other aspects of the machine are performing very well. Today I tried to push very hard and finally crashed but these are things that happen in racing. I'm proud of the work I've done with my crew, I also want to thank all of them, because we are finding a very positive approach to the race that makes me feel totally comfortable.”

“This is one of the reasons why I feel at ease in trying to push more, the first part of the season was devoted to get acquainted with the bike and now it's time to be more daring. I made a positive start, improving my performance in the early laps, and my race-pace was closer to what we deserve, finally fighting with other factory riders. The crash is all part of the game, luckily I had no
