Meet the wildcards: Silverstone

Meet the wildcards: Silverstone

Three British riders will line up on the grid for their World Championship debut at the Octo British Grand Prix.

The Moto2™ class will see Bradley Ray make his debut in front of his home crowd at Silverstone. For several years Ray, nicknamed ‘The Milky Bar Kid’, raced in the Red Bull Rookies Cup alongside the MotoGP™ World Championship, achieving a win and several podiums in the process. The last two years have seen him race in Spain, in the Moto3™ class last year and in the Moto2™ European Championship this year with the experimental Vyrus machine. Alongside his Spanish duties, Ray has also been racing in the Superstock 600 class of the British Superbike Championship.

Ray will be mounted on a British built FTR Moto2™ machine and has enjoyed several days of testing leading up to his wildcard. His ability to swap not only makes of motorcycle, but also championships and engine capacity, highlights his high level of natural talent.

The lightweight class of the World Championship, Moto3™, will have two wildcards lining up; Luke Hedger and Taz Taylor. Hedger has spent the last several seasons racing 600cc Supersport bikes in Britain, winning the Superstock category in 2013 and currently sits seventh overall in the Supersport standings. Stepping from a 600cc machine to a single-cylinder 250cc Moto3™ bike is an unusual move, but Hedger has pedigree on smaller bikes having won the 2012 125cc class in Britain.

Alongside Hedger is Taz Taylor who is currently competing in the British Moto3™ series. Taylor sits second in the standings, just behind former Moto3™ World Championship rider Scott Deroue.
