Hanika: “We have been strong in every practice”

Qualifying at the Octo British Grand Prix saw Karel Hanika utilize the slipstream perfectly to secure his third front row.

For the third time in five races, Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Karel Hanika will start on the front row having secured second. An incredible last lap saw the Czech rider cut through traffic and perfectly lined up behind Jorge Navarro (Estrella Galicia 0,0). With the slipstream worth up to an entire second at Silverstone, this move was a masterstroke for Hanika and he took huge benefit.

This result is not a one off however, the KTM rider has shown a talent in Qualifying at previous rounds and has been running inside the top ten in many sessions this weekend. Sunday’s Moto3™ World Championship race will be held as the last race of the day, a feature unique to the British GP. Despite having started on the front row twice before, Hanika is still hunting for his first World Championship podium. With both Brad Binder and Miguel Oliveira having finished on the podium this year, the bike and team are clearly up to the task.

Karel Hanika: “It was a good qualifying session for us. Tomorrow we will be on the front row, and that is always positive. We have been strong in every practice, riding in the top 8 at all times, so I am optimistic for the race. At the beginning of the session I rode with my teammates and we worked well, taking advantage of the slipstream and putting ourselves in the top positions. In the end, catching a slipstream was a lottery, but on my last lap I slotted in behind Jorge [Navarro] and I could complete my best lap. Tomorrow it will not be easy to keep up with him and Danny [Kent], but I hope to fight with them in the lead group."
