Navarro: “I did not expect to break the record”

A first Moto3™ World Championship pole position for Jorge Navarro, ready to battle for the podium at Silverstone.

The Octo British Grand Prix will see Jorge Navarro (Estrella Galicia 0,0) line up on pole position for the first time in his Moto3™ World Championship career. The former CEV front runner has shown flashes of speed all year and has frequently been involved in the podium fight. A 2’12.440 by Navarro set a new lap record and put him over half a second clear of Karel Hanika (Red Bull KTM Ajo) in second. Navarro has displayed strong pace all weekend and will no doubt be in contention on race day.

Much of the hype this season has been around Navarro’s teammate Fabio Quartararo, taking spotlight away from Navarro. As many focused on the young Frenchman, Navarro has put in the hard work to improve himself and the bike with a run of steady results. Even with all the hard work, the pole position, and especially the lap record, comes as a surprise to the young Spaniard.

Jorge Navarro: “I am very happy, because I set a great lap time. We have been working hard since the beginning of the season, doing a good job and improving race by race. It's my first pole in the World Championship and I am very satisfied. We have done a great job with the bike throughout the weekend, trying different setups and finding a good base. Even so, I did not expect to break the record in the manner that I did. For tomorrow, we know we have a good pace and if it is dry we will be up there fighting. If it is wet we will also have to push. The points are awarded tomorrow and we must try to give everything we have."
