Dovizioso: “We were taking too many risks”

Dovizioso: “We were taking too many risks”

A return to the podium for Andrea Dovizioso in the Octo British Grand Prix as he secures third.

The 2015 season has been full of ups and downs for the Ducati Team and Andrea Dovizioso, they started well a run of three second place finishes but suffered a mid season dip with three DNFs and a 12th. Fortunately neither party lost hope and the factory Ducati rider was able to put his wet weather expertise to use and secure third. In 2009 Dovizioso took his only MotoGP™ victory at a wet British Grand Prix and in 2015 he was again on the podium. It was an all-Italian affair as Dovizioso battled with Danilo Petrucci on the Octo Pramac Racing Ducati, attempting to pass the satellite rider.

Securing 16 points for third promotes Dovizioso to fifth in the MotoGP™ World Championship, now five points clear of Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech 3). Both factory Ducatis now sit in the top five of the championship table, the Italian factory having introduced the brand new GP15 this year to return them to the front of the field. The next round of the MotoGP™ championship will take place in Misano, a track where Ducati have classically gone well and where Dovizioso tested recently. This advantage could give Ducati and Dovizioso the boost they need to claim their first race win since Casey Stoner in 2010.

Andrea Dovizioso: “I am really pleased with this third place and I want to say thanks to my team, because we are working so hard to try and get back to being competitive once again. Today was not an easy day for many reasons: we started from the fourth row of the grid and I almost crashed at the start because the rear tyre suddenly lost grip and I found myself at the back of the field. Despite this I succeeded in making a good recovery, even getting up into second place. It was a really tough race, and Petrucci and I had a great battle, so I’m also happy for his excellent result. In the final stages we were taking too many risks when we were passing and repassing each other, and seeing as it was important for us to get back onto the podium, in the end I concentrated on holding onto my third place.”
