Zarco to remain in Moto2™

Zarco to remain in Moto2™

A dominating season in the intermediate class has left Johann Zarco with plenty of 2016 options.

The 2015 season has seen Ajo Motorsport’s Johann Zarco dominate the Moto2™ World Championship. spoke with Laurent Fellon, Zarco’s personal manager about what the Frenchman’s plans are for 2016.

What are you and Zarco looking for in 2016?

Johann is the one who rides the bike and decisions are his to make but we discussed it together. In MotoGP™ we wouldn’t have had a bike competitive enough to be in the top five or top six, like Bradley Smith with Tech3 for example.

We made the decision to do one more year in Moto2™ to once again fight for the title, like Pedrosa or Lorenzo did in their time. I think this will make him even stronger. Our goal is to win the World Championship. We’ll have more openings in 2017 and we’ll probably be able to get good bikes.

What MotoGP offers did you have?
We had Pramac and Aspar, that’s all.

Zarco will stay with the same team in 2016?
We’ll continue to work with the Ajo team. In 2011 we fought for the 125cc title together. We reunited this year and we’re fighting for the Moto2™ title. It’s important to stay with the same team, to keep this way of working, this composure and this tranquility, and most of all to keep all these very skilled people around Johann.

What about rumors about a test in MotoGP?
Johann will very likely be a MotoGP™ test rider in 2016.

Finally, how does Zarco plan to approach the end of 2015?
It’s like in everything else. It’s when you start thinking about your advantage that you lose it. We need to stay calm, work race after race and try to win the title. We have to use our momentum and keep working like this in order to always be fighting for the victory or the podium.
