Smith: “I am only five points from Dovizioso”

Smith: “I am only five points from Dovizioso”

Reclaiming lost ground in the championship standings the main aim for Bradley Smith at the San Marino GP.

A wet home GP allowed Smith to improve his confidence in the wet, but a seventh place finish left him hungry for more. The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider now turns his attentions to the Gran Premio TIM di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini where he’s aiming to close the gap to Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) in the MotoGP™ World Championship standings. A podium at Silverstone saw Dovizioso leap ahead of Smith in the championship table, now five points clear of the Brit. Catching Dovizioso will be difficult at Misano, not only is it a home round for both rider and team, but Ducati have also done extensive testing around Misano with the GP15.

Unfortunately for Smith, he is one the many riders who has not tested on the recently resurfaced circuit and will be starting with a small disadvantage. The level of all riders in MotoGP™ is at such a high level that no doubt Smith and his Tech 3 squad will find themselves up to speed after only a few sessions. The Brit is confident of achieving a strong result by taking the weekend step by step, focusing first on achieving a strong grid position. Smith has had two podiums in Misano in 2008 and 2009 when racing in the 125cc class, his best result since moving up to the MotoGP™ class was a seventh last year.

Bradley Smith: “Next up for the MotoGP paddock is Misano, which is a GP that I always really enjoy riding at and I am certain that we can conclude the weekend positively on Sunday. It was a bit of a tough race at Silverstone, but I gave my absolute all for my home fans and overall the finish was not too bad, plus the experience certainly has raised my confidence with riding in the wet. In the past, I have scored a few podiums at Misano in the 125cc class so I have some happy memories and these will spur me on to get a good result. Plus, I am only five points from Dovizioso in the championship standings, which makes me even more determined to push hard. The track has recently been resurfaced which is positive, yet we will start with a slight disadvantage as Ducati and a few other teams tested there recently. However, we will take everything step by step in order to clinch a solid grid position on Saturday after working on the best possible setup for Sunday as I want to be able to do a top job.”
