Bastianini out of the blocks quickest in Moto3™ FP1

Enea Bastianini finished ahead of Miguel Oliveira and Moto3™ championship leader Danny Kent in the morning’s FP1 session at Aragon.

Gresini Racing Team Moto3’s Bastianini drew first blood at MotorLand Aragon on Friday morning by setting a 1’59.134 to top Free Practice 1, after taking his maiden Moto3™ victory at Misano. Times dropped dramtically as riders adjusted to the track conditions (Track temp 17˚C) with the 17-year-old Italian leaving it until the last minute to set his fastest time, only 1.2s off Juanfran Guevara’s fastest lap from 2014 (1’57.930).

Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Miguel Oliveira finished just 0.237s off the pace of Bastianini in second, while championship leader Danny Kent (+0.245s) on the Leopard Racing Honda completed the provisional front row.

Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Jorge Navarro (+0.501s) showed no ill effects of the crash in FP1 at Misano that forced him to miss the rest of the weekend as he set the fourth fastest time on his return to track. Isaac Viñales (+0.866s) on the RBA Racing Team KTM was fifth ahead of Drive M7 SIC’s Jakub Kornfeil (+0.896s).

Francesco Bagnaia (Mapfre Team Mahindra), Niccolo Antonelli (Ongetta-Rivacold), Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Zulfahmi Khairuddin (Drive M7 SIC) completed the top ten.

There were crashes for Leopard Racing duo Hiroki Ono and Efren Vazquez at turn 1, while Stefano Manzi and Brad Binder both went down at turn 17 late on in the session.

Sena Yamada, the replacement for the injured Fabio Quartararo in the Estrella Galicia 0,0 team, was in 23rd, while wildcards Davide Pizzoli (Husqvarna Factory Laglisse) and Khairul Pawi (Honda Team Asia) finished in 22nd and 29th respectively.
