Bastianini: “It will be a group race”

Bastianini: “It will be a group race”

Back-to-back poles for Enea Bastianini as he hunts for back-to-back wins in the Moto3™ World Championship.

Having taken a career first victory at the San Marino GP, Enea Bastianini carried his confidence straight to the Aragon GP. A time of 1’57.755 secured the Gresini Racing Team Moto3 rider pole position late in the session. The Italian has looked strong all weekend despite a crash on Friday when he and another rider came together.

Bastianini knows the race will not be easy and is expecting another hard fought battle. Many riders have shown a similar pace and breaking away in the Moto3™ World Championship is always a challenge. Misano proved that Bastianini has the ability to strike on the last lap, able to just beat Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo), who will start Sunday’s race in second, in the closing corners. The Aragon GP represents another chance for the Gresini rider to reduce the points gap in the World Championship to Danny Kent (Leopard Racing). With five races remaining and a total of 125 points, the Moto3™ title is still very much up for grabs.

Enea Bastianini: “I’m happy because at the very end of the Qualifying session I managed to do a good lap, although actually I could get an even better lap time. The important thing however is to get the pole position. Tomorrow I expect a hard-fought race, because there are many riders with a good pace and it will be difficult, if not impossible, to open a gap. It will be a group race, as always, but we will do our best to continue to close the gap on Kent in the Championship”
