Pedrosa: “I had him on my tail every lap”

Pedrosa: “I had him on my tail every lap”

Dani Pedrosa wins a thrilling battle for second at the Gran Premio Movistar de Aragon.

The 2015 MotoGP™ World Championship has not been an easy year for Dani Pedrosa, the Repsol Honda rider suffering from arm pump at the start of the year and troubled by the difficult to handle 2015 Honda. But the Aragon GP marked a return to form in spectacular fashion, it was Dani Pedrosa in his prime as he battled with Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha). As two of the most experienced riders in the MotoGP™ class, they’ve had their fair share of battles and this will go down as one of their best. Rossi stalked Pedrosa for multiple laps, just waiting for his time to strike but Pedrosa responded to each pass.

Determined to finish second and return to the podium for the first time since Germany, Pedrosa dug to deep to hold off Rossi. One factor that played into Pedrosa’s hands was his speed down the straight, Rossi forced to run a leaner fuel mixture due to his size. Try as he might, Rossi couldn’t get past and Pedrosa took a well-deserved second while his Repsol Honda teammate, Marc Marquez, crashed out. With four rounds remaining, Pedrosa is still hunting for his first win of 2015 having claimed at least one victory each year since joining the premier class in 2006.

Dani Pedrosa: “I’m really happy as it was a great race with Valentino! It was difficult, because I had him on my tail every lap and during the last five he tried to pass me, but I managed to stay in front of him. He is a rider who is very strong in this part of racing, and can usually beat anyone on the grid –and for me it is one of my weaker points. However, today I was able to beat him and I’m so happy because during the battle we swapped positions many times which gives me great motivation. I want to thank the entire Repsol Honda team and we will try to be stronger at the next race!"
