Dovizioso: “We managed to improve in both sessions”

Andrea Dovizioso looking for more despite ending the opening day of the Motul Grand Prix of Japan in fourth.

Motegi has classically suited the Ducatis, braking stability being one of their major strengths even during the difficult years. To improve the understeer that had plagued previous models, Gigi Dall’Inga was forced to sacrifice some of this fabled braking stability to improve turning in the GP15. So far the GP15 has been a huge success, but Andrea Dovizioso is still searching for more stability when on the brakes. Improving this area will be Dovizioso’s main aim during FP3 and FP4 on Saturday.

Even with these areas to improve, the Ducati Team rider is confident in his race pace and is already looking ahead to success on Sunday. Dovizioso’s 1’45.059s was only 0.328s slower than Jorge Lorenzo’s (Movistar Yamaha) best time of the day. Both Ducati Team riders are going well in Motegi with Iannone only a fraction faster than ‘Desmo Dovi’.

Andrea Dovizioso: “I am pleased because today we went well straight away, and more importantly, we managed to improve in both sessions. My GP15 is a bit more stable under braking, but it’s not enough for the moment and so we are going to have to try and make another step forward in this direction for tomorrow. In any case our race pace is quick and this is vital in view of Sunday.”
