Lowes: “I could have done quite a quick lap”

Lowes: “I could have done quite a quick lap”

Sam Lowes secures a front row start for the Pramac Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix after vicious crash.

With ample experience around the Phillip Island circuit from racing in the World Supersport series, Sam Lowes secured his best result of the 2014 Moto2™ World Championship with fifth last year. His form at the circuit continues in 2015 having finished either first or second in all sessions ahead of Qualifying. It wasn’t just one lap pace from the Speed Up Racing team rider that was strong, on Friday he used a single rear tyre to focus on his pace towards the end of the race.

All was going to plan for Lowes until he suffered a vicious highside at Turn 6, known as Siberia. He was immediately up and on his feet but was walking with a slight limp and reported pain in his knee after. Despite the crash and being unable to rejoin the session, Lowes will still start third. Frequently in 2015 Lowes has suffered crashes and bounced back as though nothing had happened. Regardless of his knee, the Brit remains confident for tomorrow’s race as he seeks his second win in the Moto2™ Championship.

Sam Lowes: “Yeah we just had a crash in Siberia, quite a big one but I’m alright, just hurt my knee a bit. Not a big problem and I have good pace this weekend as I’ve been doing a lot of good runs. I feel good and yeah it was unfortunate, as I could have done quite a quick lap time. We’ll improve for Warm Up and in the race it should all be good!”
