The Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix offers Johann Zarco a chance of redemption after a torrid Australian GP.
The flyaways finally draw to a close with the Malaysian GP, just one more race till the most demanding part of the MotoGP™ World Championship is done. It has been a dramatic period for Johann Zarco who was crowned the Moto2™ World Champion after an incredible year but the Australian GP proved a massive struggle. The Ajo Motorsport rider’s aim for the Malaysian GP is to return to the podium to end the series of back-to-back races on a high. Only once has Zarco stood on the podium in Sepang, back in 2011 when he was third I the 125cc race but has been able to finish in the top ten most years.
Finding the right racing line will be important at the wide Sepang International Circuit, especially with the tight and technical opening corners. The Frenchman is not resting on his championship and is continuing to push at each round and work diligently with his Ajo Motorsport team, already thinking of next year. Several records also exist for Zarco to claim and even surpass, including the most points scored in a single Moto2™ season which Zarco is just 28-points shy of.
Johann Zarco: “I hope this weekend the feelings are better than last week. Although the result was not what we expected, I think the last GP helped us to learn. In Malaysia, as every year, I’m sure the heat will make things difficult. Last year I was very close to the podium, so I think this year we can be in the fight for victory. It will be important to find good line with the Kalex at such a wide circuit. We just have to continue working as we have been doing and enjoy ourselves on the bike. We want to win again."
