Folger quickest out of the blocks in Moto2™ FP1

Jonas Folger tops Moto2™ FP1 ahead of Johann Zarco and Thomas Luthi at the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix.

AGR Team’s Folger set a 2’07.720 to bounce back from his flat tyre at the Australian GP in the hazy conditions (Track temp. 41˚C) of Friday morning at the Sepang International Circuit.

Ajo Motorsport’s Johann Zarco (+0.048s) was the only other an to break the 2’08 barrier and get within half a second of the German. Thomas Luthi (+0.566s) on the Derendinger Racing Interwetten Kalex completed the provisional front row.

QMMF Racing Team’s Mika Kallio (+0.624s), who announced on Friday he will be a test rider for KTM in MotoGP™ next year, was fourth. Folger’s teammate Axel Pons (+0.629s) set the fifth fastest time with Forward Racing’s Simone Corsi (+0.654s) in sixth and Alex Rins (Paginas Amarillas HP40) in seventh.

Idemitsu Honda Team Asia teammates Takaaki Nakagami and Azlan Shah were in eighth and ninth respectively, with Julian Simon (QMMF Racing Team) completing the top ten.

Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes finished in 12th, while EG 0,0 Marc VDS’s Tito Rabat is missing the Malaysian GP to allow him to focus on recovering from his injuries.
