Antonelli: “We tried many things to understand the way'

Hard work pays off for Niccolo Antonelli as he takes a third career pole position ahead of the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix.

The 2015 Moto3™ World Championship has been an incredible season for Niccolo Antonelli, not only has he shaken his reputation as a crasher, but he has also take two wins and two podiums. For the second time in this career making season he will line up in pole position, his previous pole at the Czech GP converting to victory. It was not an easy pole as traffic was a serious issue during the Qualifying session, but the VR46 Academy rider was able to use other riders to his advantage. Even so times were tight and Antonelli’s 2’12.653 was only 0.047s faster than Jorge Navarro’s (Estrella Galicia 0,0) best time.

With two long straights, the Moto3™ race looks set to be a tight one as a slipstream can allow a rider to close upwards of a second, breaking away will be nearly impossible. The Moto3™ grid was again rocked by penalties but Antonelli was fortunately unaffected. Without a mathematical chance of taking the 2015 Moto3™ World Championship, Antonelli is out simply to win the race and end 2015 on a high before challenging for the crown in 2016.

Niccolo Antonelli: "I am really happy for this pole position, the second this year. Yesterday we tried many things to understand the right direction but this morning the feeling was already good. Normally I turn alone, but if I had done it today, during the last lap lots of riders would have improved their time. Tomorrow the race will be hard even from a physical point of view but we will fight to remain ahead.”
