Kent on form in Moto3™ FP3

Kent on form in Moto3™ FP3

Danny Kent returned to the top of the timesheets during FP3 at Sepang ahead of Niccolo Antonelli and Miguel Oliveira.

Leopard Racing’s Championship leader Danny Kent re-established his dominance in Sepang by topping FP3 with a 2’12.731. The Brit was top in FP1, but had to settle for fifth in FP2, although he was top of the overnight combined timesheets. Kent left it late to set his time, the best so far of the weekend, and displace Niccolo Antonelli on the Ongetta-Rivacold Honda at the top by just 0.114s.

Antonelli was seventh overnight, but improved to finish second fastest in FP3 ahead of Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Miguel Oliveira (+0.226s). Oliveira is the only man who can stop Kent lifting the title in Sepang, but trails the Brit by 40 points in the standings.

Drive M7 SIC’s Jakub Kornfeil (+0.492s) was fourth fastest at his team’s home grand prix as he made use of the fact that they test at the circuit throughout the winter. Oliveira’s teammate Brad Binder (+0.537s) ended the session in fifth with Romano Fenati (+0.616s) on the Sky Racing Team VR46 KTM in sixth.

Efren Vazquez (Leopard Racing), Jorge Navarro (Estrella Galicia 0,0), Francesco Bagnaia (Mapfre Team Mahindra) and Stefano Manzi (San Carlo Team Italia) completed the top ten. Scotsman John McPhee (SAXOPRINT RTG) crashed heavily at turn 12 towards the end of the session that left him down in 23rd.

Alessandro Tonucci was declared unfit after a crash in FP2, while Andrea Locatelli withdrew from the weekend after FP1 due to pain from his injured coccyx.
