Lorenzo: “I don’t remember a race that was hotter”

Jorge Lorenzo secures an important second place in a race full of drama, focusing on closing the championship gap.

Saturday saw Jorge Lorenzo just miss out on the front row, Movistar Yamaha teammate Valentino Rossi stealing third in the dying seconds of the session. Starting off the front row would see him swallowed by the two factory Ducati riders in the opening corners, the Majorcan able to dispense of them in one clean move and then focussing on the likes of Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) ahead of him.  As drama unfolded behind him, Lorenzo strung together a series of fast laps to cement himself in second.

At no point was it an easy race, the brutal conditions of Sepang making each lap a challenge to overcome, even without pressure from another MotoGP™ World Championship rider. Lorenzo was clearly exhausted after the race, immediately removing the top half of his leathers in an attempt to cool down. The MotoGP™ paddock now return to Europe for the last round of the year in Valencia, Lorenzo behind by seven points after Rossi again finished behind him. Due to his actions in the race, Rossi will start from the back of the grid, which should hopefully grant Lorenzo the advantage he needs to pose a serious challenge. It could hardly get any closer.

Jorge Lorenzo: “You know I don’t remember a race that was hotter or more difficult than this in a physical way. On the bike with the hot engine it was terrible, like being in the sun! Very hot and difficult to finish the race but it was worth the effort and the championship is closer. It’s still very difficult but we will see what happens in the investigation with Marc and Vale. I didn’t see it so I can’t make an opinion but it looks like it was big!”
