Kent: “Our bike was too slow”

Kent: “Our bike was too slow”

A frustrating race sees Danny Kent struggle to enter the top five, unable to claim the title yet again as he lead continues to vanish.

The Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix was yet another difficult race for Danny Kent, unable to finish inside the top six and again forced to wait to lift the 2015 Moto3™ World Championship. It was a poor start to the race for Kent who struggled to get his Leopard Racing Honda off the line and quickly lost contact with the front group, dropping outside the points in the early stages. All three of the flyaway races have seen Kent start cautiously, charging inside the top ten towards the end and again the Brit repeated this performance. In the closing laps Kent was with the leading group, try as he might he was unable to end the race inside the top six necessary to lift the title.

Kent’s lead over Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo) at one point looked impossible to overcome, but a run of bad luck from the Brit and incredible form from Oliveira has seen the gap cut to 24 points. In Valencia Kent needs to score just two points in order to lift the title and Oliveira must win the race, the odds are definitely in Kent’s favour. His Leopard Racing team will be eager to examine Kent’s bike after the Brit felt he was down on power, unable to pass other riders down the straights. Even a miniscule problem could be detrimental in Valencia where there are no more second chances.

Danny Kent: “Well, apart from this frustrating outcome of the weekend it was a very difficult race as we lost the front group straight off the line and it took a while to catch them again. However, as soon as I was racing amongst the front group it was clear to see that our bike was too slow, I wasn’t able to pass anyone out of the slipstream. I was well aware that if I will finished the race in fifth place everything is safe. However, to do so it would have been necessary for another rider in the front group to make a mistake. At this track you win the race in the last sector due to this two long straights here, but it was impossible for me pass someone on the straight. Yes, it’s a little bit frustrating again. So we now go to Valencia where we need to score two points if Oliveira wins again. For sure it’s frustrating again as we would like to win the championship here. But it all comes to the finale in Valencia now.
