Iannone: “It’s vitally important to finish fourth'

After two DNFs in three races, Andrea Iannone heads to the Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana with the intent of regaining fourth.

The 2015 MotoGP™ World Championship began over eight months ago, the 17 races from Qatar to Valencia have been filled with action and drama, especially for the Ducati Team. Andrea Iannone has been one of the stand out performers of 2015, shaking off his reputation as an overly aggressive rider who frequently crashed and becoming one of the most consistent riders in the premier class. Twice during the flyaways Iannone’s GP15 encountered technical problems, resulting in him failing to score on two occasions, so far his only times out of the points. Unfortunately these two DNFs have seen the Italian slip behind Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) in the standings, Iannone now fifth with 188 points.

Luckily for the Ducati rider, Pedrosa is just two points ahead and finishing in front of the Spaniard in Valencia would greatly help his challenge. In his two visits to Valencia in the premier class Iannone has failed to score any points, but did secure second in the 2010 Moto2™ race. However, Iannone did produce a strong ride during the opening stages of the 2014 race and has shown a great improvement in ability in 2015. Regardless of how they finish, Iannone is guaranteed to end the season as the top Ducati rider.

Andrea Iannone: “The Valencia track is a favourable one for us: last year with the GP14 I led for the first ten laps and remained in the leading positions for the next 5, so I hope to be able to fight with the top guys again this year. I think that the GP15 has a good potential at Valencia and I will try to make up the two-point gap separating me from Pedrosa. For me it’s vitally important to finish fourth in the championship, so I will focus my race on Dani and try and finish ahead of him.”
