Viñales: “I’m happy for having taken the Rookie of the Year'

Maverick Viñales looks to end a successful debut season in the premier class with a strong Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana.

The last race of the 2015 MotoGP™ World Championship is almost underway and Maverick Viñales heads into his 18th MotoGP™ race having already collected Rookie of the Year. Other riders who have taken the Rookie of the Year title include Jorge Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez. It has been an incredibly positive season for the Spanish rider, able to beat his Team Suzuki Ecstar teammate Aleix Espargaro on several occasions and finish the majority of races in the points. Even with these stellar results, Viñales still left several rounds disappointed that he had been unable to achieve more.

Now the Suzuki rider looks for one final strong result in front of his home crowd before testing for the 2016 season begins on Tuesday. One of Viñales’ strongest traits is his ability to quickly learn and adapt to the bike, no doubt Suzuki will be eager to hear his feedback after testing.

Maverick Viñales: “For sure I’m happy for having taken the Rookie of the Year title, even if it wasn’t my priority it is a good feeling. My objective for this year was not to focus on the classification but to learn as much as possible with the new class and the new machine; also being a Factory rider in a fully organised Factory team. This has been an amazing experience, I could learn a lot and I feel I still have much to gain, this keeping my ambition always high. The race in Valencia will be important as all the others, we are very close to the 100-points target and not so far from the top 10 in the Championship; it will be hard but it would be a good result after the positive season. I like the circuit, it could also be good for our machine’s layout and the fight will be very interesting. We have developed a way to approach the race that makes me feel comfortable, I like to work hard to prepare for the race and this is basically what we are going to do.”
