Crutchlow: “I was working a lot on the set-up”

Despite finding several riders on his fast lap, Cal Crutchlow remains happy with his Friday in Valencia.

Britain’s Cal Crutchlow ended Friday practice at the Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana in tenth, but happy with progress. The LCR Honda rider spent the majority of the afternoon session on the hard rear tyre with race pace in mind, unconcerned with a fast lap for the majority of the session. This maintains Crutchlow’s strong run of form in recent rounds after a difficult mid season dip. Crutchlow was able to get within half a second of Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) in third.

Many of the Honda MotoGP™ bikes struggled with severe rear issues, but Crutchlow didn’t experience anything serious. His main problem was slow riders in his fast lap, upsetting Crutchlow. Even with these issues he is pleased with how the opening day of practice in Valencia went and is feeling confident ahead of Sunday’s race.

Cal Crutchlow: “Overall I’m happy enough, we used the hard rear tyre for a long time in the afternoon session and it was not so quick, but I was working a lot on the set-up. Then we put in the soft tyre and we managed to get in a really nice lap time, even though I found a couple of guys on the track on my fast lap, so I’m positive going into tomorrow. I’m happy enough with how the season has gone, but although it’s the last round we have to treat it like any normal race weekend and do our very best for myself and the team. Everybody likes to finish the year on a good note and I did last year with a fifth place here and I hope to try and do the same again.”
