Last-gasp Oliveira snatches top spot in Moto3™ FP3

Miguel Oliveira was quickest out of the blocks on Saturday morning to top FP3 ahead of Navarro and Fenati, while Kent ends session in 12th.

The only man who can deny Danny Kent the title in Valencia, Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Miguel Oliveira, got his Saturday off to the perfect start by topping Free Practice 3. The Portuguese rider set the fastest time of the weekend by far, a 1’39.293, on his very last lap to deny Estrella Galicia’s Jorge Navarro top spot by just 0.190s.

Navarro had ended Fridays practice in fifth, but recovered to end FP3 in second in a session that saw less than a second separate the top 22 riders. Sky Racing Team VR46’s Romano Fenati (+0.239s) improved from ninth overnight to complete the provisional front row.

Drive M7 SIC’s Jakub Kornfeil (+0.330s) was fourth in his last GP for his team, with wildcard Nicolo Bulega (+0.409s) on the Sky Racing Team VR46 KTM once again impressing in fifth.

Hiroki Ono (Leopard Racing) was sixth fastest, while John McPhee (SAXOPRINT RTG) had to settle for seventh after leading the way for most of the session.

Andrea Migno (Sky Racing Team VR46), Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Ajo), and Phillip Oettl (Schedl GP Racing) completed the top ten.

Fabio Quartararo (Estrella Galicia 0,0) was in 11th on his return from injury, while Leopard Racing’s Kent ended the session in 12th, but did not put in a fresh rear slick towards the end like most to set a flying lap.
