Luthi sets fastest time of weekend in Moto2™ FP3

Thomas Luthi continued his dominance from Friday to finish fastest in FP3 ahead of Tito Rabat and Alex Rins.

Derendinger Racing Interwetten’s Luthi carried his momentum from Friday’s practice into Saturday morning as he topped Free Practice 3 with a 1’35.545, the quickest time of the weekend so far.

EG 0,0 Marc VDS’s Rabat (+0.049s) finished in second to continue his impressive return from injury. He finished just 0.031s ahead of Paginas Amarillas HP40’s Alex Rins in third, as just 0.080s separated the provisional front row.

Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes (+0.178s) was fourth fastest, with AGR Team’s Jonas Folger (+0.406s) in fifth, but a further 0.228s back from the Brit. Folger’s teammate Axel Pons (+0.477s) was sixth fastest, while Simone Corsi (Forward Racing), Julian Simon (QMMF Racing Team), Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) and Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing Team) completed the top ten.

There was nasty crash early on in the session involving Pons, Azlan Shah and Louis Rossi in between turns 4 & 5. Shah was taken to the Medical Centre for checks, where it was found he had fractured his right hand and was declared unfit.

Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten) was forced to pull out of the GP after FP2 due to the pain he was suffering from his previous injuries and was replaced by Josh Hook, who finished the session in 32nd.
