Smith: “We have to improve in sector four”

Smith: “We have to improve in sector four”

A difficult first day at the Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana for Bradley Smith, outside the top ten.

It was a challenging opening day for Bradley Smith in Valencia, ending in 15th on combined times. The Brit focused his attentions primarily on race setup as opposed to pushing for a fast lap on his Monster Yamaha Tech 3 machine. A total of 21 laps during Free Practice 1 saw Smith end down in 17th. As with the majority of the MotoGP™ World Championship, Smith pushed for a fast lap towards the end of Free Practice 2 but was only able to improve his time by 0.3s and ended the opening day in 15th overall.

Over race distance Smith is feeling confident and will shift his attention to setting a fast flying lap on Saturday ahead of the Qualifying battle. Smith started the Malaysian GP in a similar fashion and ended the weekend with his best dry weather result of 2015. Already mathematically certain of taking the top satellite honour, Smith is out for a strong final race and to complete a full season of point scoring finishes.

Bradley Smith: “Today was not great in terms of the end result, but I am fully confident that we can progress more tomorrow and get back to where we should be. Throughout the day, we improved gradually and made some small steps forward but we wanted to be as ready for possible for the GP and so we did a lot of laps on the rear tyre in order to get a good race setup. Anyway, we started to find a good direction in FP2 and I am sure that we will be much more competitive with new tyres when we get going again tomorrow. The main area where we have to improve is sector four which is the part of the track that I am struggling with and which also prevented me from setting a stronger lap time. Yet, I’m convinced that the team will work hard tonight and we will surely be back inside the top ten tomorrow morning.”
