Zarco: “Everyone is riding very fast”

Zarco: “Everyone is riding very fast”

Use of the 2016 chassis pays off for Johann Zarco who takes big steps forward to secure second for the Valencia GP.

Having a major breakthrough in the afternoon at the Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana allowed Johann Zarco to secure second for Sunday’s race. The Frenchman had struggled earlier in the weekend and it was only in the critical Qualifying session that he and his Ajo Motorsport team made the improvements to move amongst the fastest riders. A 1’35.372 put the 2015 Moto2™ World Champion second on the grid, just behind Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) . This is Zarco’s 13th front row start of the year.

Throughout the weekend the Frenchman has been experimenting with the 2016 Kalex frame, helping with development ahead of next year. During 2015 Zarco has raced the 2014 Kalex frame, as a new team Ajo Motorsport were unable to obtain the 2015 version. Already the 2016 frame looks to be on track to be yet another step forward and Zarco will use it to defend his intermediate class title in 2016. Before the Frenchman can even think about next year, there is the matter of Sunday’s race and Zarco is confident of battling for victory, hoping to end an incredible year with victory.

Johann Zarco: “We have taken a big step forward. I had to push hard to take second position, but that's normal because we are in Valencia and everyone is riding very fast. Tito [Rabat] is very motivated to get the runner-up spot and take victory before moving up to MotoGP. For me it is also very interesting, because I have many things to learn and I want to prepare for next year. After having some problems yesterday and this morning, getting second position and starting from the front row gives us a good opportunity to have a good start to the race. I will do my best to get the win, but my first goal is to finish the race, because after a fantastic season I want to sign off with a smile."
