Oliveira: “We came very close”

The 2015 Moto3™ World Championship slips through Miguel Oliveira’s but a valiant effort sees him go out in style.

Six races, four wins and two seconds, taking 140 points of the 150 on offer. An incredible end to the season for Miguel Oliveira as he did all he could to challenge for the 2015 lightweight title. After 18 races, and a disadvantage of 110 points after the British GP, the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider lost the championship by only six points. Regardless of position it was an incredible comeback for him and the Portuguese rider will be remembered throughout history. For the entire race Oliveira pushed towards the front and was always able to recover when overtaken, riding within his limits.

With second in the Moto3™ Championship secured, Oliveira now turns his attention to 2016 where he will move to the intermediate class and compete alongside title rival Danny Kent in the Leopard Racing team.  There were no hard feelings between the two competitors, the two sharing a handshake on the podium. Oliveira cements himself as Portugal’s most successful Grand Prix rider and can expect a hero’s welcome when he returns home.

Miguel Oliveira: “Whoever has the most points wins the championship, and we came very close, but I'm happy with the season we've had especially the last three races. Winning all three has been very good. We have proven to be a great team and the results we have obtained make me optimistic about the new challenges to come in the future. Throughout the year I have not had hardly any head-to-head battles with Kent. It has been a fight at a distance, because we haven't really coincided at the front much. I have had ups and downs this year, but to end up winning the last three races is a great feat. I'm happy with today's win, in a race that was very competitive. I want to thank the whole team, KTM, Red Bull and all the partners for this wonderful season."
