Dovizioso: “All things considered I felt OK”

Dovizioso: “All things considered I felt OK”

A steady start to the 2016 season for Andrea Dovizioso as he completes 128 laps of the Valencia circuit during testing.

Two days of testing in Valencia after the 18th round of the MotoGP™ World Championship marked the beginning of 2016 season. For 2016 all riders will switch to Michelin tyres and a unified spec software package. Throughout 2015 permanent MotoGP™ riders have had chances to test the new tyres, but the Valencia test was their first opportunity to fully focus on the tyres without the 2015 season looming in the background. Dovizioso spent the two day test learning the Michelin tyres and learning how to best adjust his riding style and bike setup for the new rubber. Towards the end of the second day Dovizioso also equipped his GP15 with the new software.

It is clear there is room to improve with both areas, but Dovizioso was able to gather good data and feedback for further development by Ducati, Michelin and Magnetti Marelli who are in charge of the unified software. With a time of 1’31.967 Dovizioso was the 15th fastest rider, but the Italian remained unconcerned with times having completed his testing programme. Dovizioso and Ducati now head to Jerez for a final test before the winter testing ban. Ducati are set to debut their GP16 machine in Sepang on the first of February.

Andrea Dovizioso: “It was an important test because we had to get a good idea of how the new Michelin tyres behave, and that’s the most important thing at the moment in order to be able to go strongly. In these two days we have worked a lot and I believe that we have managed to give important feedback for the development. Towards the end of the day I also used the new software, which is a bit different from what we were used to, but all things considered I felt OK and I am happy with the way things went.”
