Hernandez: “I like the new electronics”

Steady progress for Yonny Hernandez as he and the Aspar Team continue work with the Michelin tyres and new electronics.

With the winter testing ban finally over, MotoGP™ World Championship riders and teams were able to get out on track for the first time in 2016. Sepang, the first of three tests before the season gets underway in Qatar, will be crucial as riders seek to understand the new Magenti Marelli electronics and Michelin tyres. Colombia’s Yonny Hernandez had a steady start to the year, finding his rhythm on the bike and slowly working through a number of things. Feeling and feedback with the Michelin tyres has improved for Hernandez since the Valencia test, the Ducati rider eager to try the softer option and push for a lap time on Tuesday. Monday saw Hernandez end 14th with a 2’02.916.

Yonny Hernandez: “We did various electronic tests this morning and the feeling was really good. I like the new electronics and even though we have a lot of work to do we are already on the right lines. I am happy with this first day – I was really looking forward to getting back on the bike. We had a little setback at the end of the day and didn't have chance to try the soft tyre, which I think would have improved the lap time a little more. We are relaxed though because we still have two more days to test and we have plenty of margin to improve. I am starting to like the Michelin tyres, more so than when we tested at Valencia. They give good feedback and I think there is a lot we can still get out of the soft option. They have brought a new front tyre here and we are working hard to get the most out of it.”
