Petrucci: “The confidence is growing”

An early lap on soft tyres grants Danilo Petrucci the top spot on Tuesday in Sepang, but the Italian remains realistic.

It was an interrupted second day at the Sepang International Circuit for the first MotoGP™ World Championship test of 2016. A crash from Loris Baz saw action stopped for over an hour and the soft tyre removed from testing. Fortunately Danilo Petrucci used a soft tyre to set a staggering 2’00.095 before the incident, going unbeaten for the remainder of the day. Movistar Yamaha MotoGP’s Jorge Lorenzo got within 0.1s of the Octo Pramac Yakhnich rider, but the Italian held on. Despite the stellar result Petrucci remains realistic, knowing that he still has a lot of work to do on the final day of the test on Wednesday. Since Monday he and the team have made significant progress, especially in regard to the electronics. Not only did Petrucci’s time see him top the Tuesday time sheets, but he also leads the test on combined times.

Danilo Petrucci: “I'm happy for this result. We were quick and we made the most of the situation considered what has happened with Loris Baz. It's nice to set the fastest lap time although obviously it is not entirely representative. To end up the day in first place, however, gives much satisfaction even to the team who did a brilliant job. In the afternoon I could not go fast as hoped and this remains an important goal that we will try to get tomorrow. Improvements? Yes, compared to Monday we have made progress. The confidence with the bike and the tyres is growing and electronics is improving too. But we are still far from the top riders: tomorrow we'll try to get closer.”
