Laverty: “Every time we left the pits it started to rain”

Eugene Laverty only manages to complete ten laps on a weather-affected first day of the Phillip Island test.

Laverty was looking to try and get as much dry track time as possible in Phillip Island after the injury he sustained in Sepang. Unfortunately for the Irishman, the first day of the Phillip Island test was heavily affected by rain and so he decided not to take any unnecessary risks. This meant he only completed 10 laps throughout the day, setting a 1’35.679 on his Ducati GP14.2 to end the day in 14th, 3.915s off the pace of Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Yakhnich) who led the way.

Day two of the Phillip Island test kicks off at 9.45am local time on Tuesday.

Eugene Laverty: “There was so much rain today, every time we left the pits it started to rain so we only did a few laps and the conditions were never perfect. The hand is more or less okay, especially around this circuit because it is anti-clockwise with only a few right-handers where I feel the pain. At the moment there is not much to be gained for us by going out in the wet because it is clear I need dry track time, having missed so much at the other tests. We have a lot of work to do but first I need to get comfortable with this bike in the dry so hopefully the weather can be kinder to us for the rest of this test.”
