Iannone: “We also tested some interesting solutions”

Andrea Iannone tests intermediate tyres as well as getting ample time on a dry Phillip Island circuit.

A damp morning gave Ducati Team’s Andrea Iannone a chance to run Michelin’s intermediate tyre. The short run gave Iannone and Ducati some insight into when the intermediate tyres may be of use, but the real work came when the Phillip Island circuit was finally dry. After a difficult first day of weather, the sun was welcomed and slicks quickly fitted, Iannone taking the chance to complete over 70 laps with a best time of 1.29.917. This saw the Italian end the day in seventh and as the second fastest Ducati, Avintia Racing’s Hector Barbera scoring a solid sixth just 0.003s ahead of the factory rider.

Andrea Iannone: “All in all, today was a positive day because we were able to do a lot of laps, which was essential for us to get a better idea of the way the new Desmosedici GP behaves. As a result I am satisfied with the work we did and in the end we also tested some interesting solutions: with the data we gathered we’ll decide which direction to go in on the final day of the test, hoping that tomorrow the weather will allow us to work all day.”
