Private testing continues in Jerez

Private testing continues in Jerez

The Jerez circuit continues to be a hive of activity as Moto2™ and Moto3™ teams build towards the 2016 season.

Another two day private test got underway in Jerez on the 23rd of February with several Moto2™ and Moto3™ teams including Forward Racing, Mapfre Team Mahindra and AGR taking to the circuit for the first time in 2016. The first official test of the year begins in Jerez on the second of March, teams using all the track time they can get before the 2016 season. It was an especially important test for Mapfre Team Mahindra and Peugeot SAXOPRINT RTG as they debuted their new bikes for the upcoming year.

Unlike the week before, riders and teams were greeted with sun and warm conditions, allowing riders to get to work almost immediately. The day was divided into six sessions, each class getting three 55 minutes blocks of track time, which alternated throughout the day. In the Moto2™ class it was Lorenzo Baldassarri of the Forward Racing team who topped the time sheets with a 1’42.939, just 0.1s off Rabat’s pole time from 2015. Marcel Schrotter was 0.2s behind the Italian with Mattia Pasini and Axel Pons both within half a second of the top time.

Meanwhile in the Moto3™ class Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Jorge Navarro led the lightweight riders with a 1’47.383, matching his time from the Grand Prix earlier in the year. Navarro’s time was just under 0.3s better than Enea Bastianini’s best with Jorge Martin a further 0.3s back on the new Mahindra MGP30.

Several riders in the Moto2™ class including Thomas Luthi, Dominique Aegerter, Julian Simon and Xavier Simeon chose not to run transponders while Alex Rins ran on a production 600cc machine, choosing not to use up one of his allocated private testing days. In the Moto3™ class Fabio Quartararo, Joan Mir, Romano Fenati and Andrea Migno were amongst those who elected not to run transponders.
