Bastianini: “We will need to find the right balance”

Day two of private testing in Jerez becomes a balancing act for Enea Bastianini, chasing bike stability.

The final day of private testing for Gresini Racing Team Moto3 came to a close at Jerez de la Frontera with Enea Bastianini able to make steady progress throughout. With weather slightly worse than the previous days, the Italian and his team were unable to test all that they wanted but still made significant inroads. Balancing performance between fast and slow corners remains a primary concern for Bastianini who set a best time of 1’47.632. This was the fastest time of the second day and placed the Gresini rider second overall, 0.249s shy of Jorge Navarro’s (Estrella Galicia 0,0) best time of the test. During the 2015 Spanish GP, Bastianini qualified in seventh with a 1’47.251.

Enea Bastianini: “Today we the track conditions were slightly worse than yesterday, then some setting solutions we tried on the bike didn’t work out as we wished. Despite everything we are happy: I had a good rhythm and at the end of the day I managed to set the same time obtained yesterday. However, there is room for improvement, both with regard to the race pace, where we are still lacking a few tenths, and in the flying lap. The changes we tried in order to improve the bike in the fast corners worked well, but they had an impact on the slower parts of the track, so we will need to find the right balance. We will try to do it in the next test and I’m convinced that we will succeed.”
