Scott Redding leaves the Qatar Test as the second fastest rider and full to the brim with confidence ahead of the first race.
Each of the three off season tests have seen Scott Redding slowly make more and more progress, his confidence growing with each lap. A busy testing schedule culminated in the Brit ending as the second fastest rider overall, 0.516s back of Jorge Lorenzo’s (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) incredible time. Many have doubted Redding’s talent in the past two years, but signing to the Octo Pramac Yakhnich squad has come as a blessing as he has been able to focus on relaxing and riding, bringing out his best.
Friday saw Redding do two longer runs of ten and 11 laps, his fastest time coming at the end of the ten lap run. With the Qatar race itself only 22 laps, this bodes well for the first race of the year and Redding is aiming for the top six. Based on his pace his Redding’s aims seem more than achievable, the Brit potentially able to join in on the podium party if he can consistently run in the 1’55s as he did during his ten lap run. During this ten lap run Redding produced five 1'55 laps, Lorenzo managing only three during his race run,
Scott Redding: “I am really very happy. I wanted to push hard to see my potential. At the beginning we struggled a bit with the new tyres but things improved after day. Today I was strong with the new tyre but I set my best time on lap ten with a tyre that had 15 laps already. And the race is not much longer. I am very happy, I feel that the confidence is coming. In these days we also had two bikes and this gave me the opportunity to push without having any worries. Qatar GP? When I say that my goal is the Top 6 some start to laugh. I'm proving to be able to stay at that level and I will try to do even better.”
