Barbera: “This was the best test of the winter”

A top ten finish for Hector Barbera at the Qatar Test as a successful pre-season ends for the Open Class World Champion.

After surprising many with strong performances in Sepang and Phillip Island, Hector Barbera continued his excellent work in Qatar as he ended the test in ninth overall. A best time of 1’55.733 saw Barbera 0.033s back on Andrea Dovizioso’s (Ducati Team) time on the factory Ducati. The spec electronics and ECU by Magneti Marelli have done exactly what they were intended to do; tighten up the field and allow a greater number of riders to battle for the top ten. Hector Barbera is a shining example of how this has worked, the Avintia Racing man confident of battling for the top ten each round now.

It was not a perfect test for Barbera as he fell twice, but he found the positives to both his falls, as he knew he was on the limit with both accidents. The crashes did limit his track time on the final day of the test, Barbera completing just 23 laps.

Hector Barbera: “I’m really happy because we did a really good job during these three days, much better compared with the previous tests. We had the pace, the speed and although I crashed twice, this was not a problem, as they came when I was trying to find the limit. Those were my first two crashes over the winter, but is better that they came now and not in the Grand Prix weekend. This was the best test of the winter for me, even though the position is not so good, bit I’m extremely happy with the way we have worked. Winter testing has been really good, and my confidence is high. I’m ready to race.”
