Bradl: “Now we just need to stay calm”

Three days of important work for Stefan Bradl in Qatar aboard the brand new 2016 Aprilia RS-GP.

Although he was down in 21st on combined times and over 2.5 seconds behind the fastest rider, Stefan Bradl was left pleased with the work he and Aprilia did in Qatar. With the new RS-GP having only been official launched ahead of the Qatar Test, Bradl’s focus was on improving reliability and removing any minor issues with the new bike. Work went on throughout the three-day event with Bradl able to consistently stay just over 2.5 seconds back on the fastest rider despite times improving by over half a second across the test. With 104 laps completed, Bradl gathered significant data for the Aprilia Racing Team Gresini.

With the right path found, Bradl and Aprilia will now return to the workshop ahead of the first race on the 20th of March. Their expectations remain realistic as they are yet to push the bike at anywhere close to 100% and know the first few races will again be about gathering information and slowly improving the package.

Stefan Bradl: “The last day was really productive for us. I was able to put in a lot of laps without running into those small problems that often slow down work on a completely new bike. I also got in various sessions with a several laps in a row to prepare for the race weekend and everything worked rather well. We focused above all on the front end of the bike to improve the feeling, managing to find a few benefits, but unfortunately we didn't have the time to work on the rear, so we'll start from there during on race weekend. We are on the right path. Now we just need to stay calm and keep working this way.”
