Dovizioso: “MotoGP bikes can make the most of their power'

With a new bike Andrea Dovizioso heads to Qatar with the aiming of repeating his incredible 2015 battle.

The Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar in 2015 saw Andrea Dovizioso produce one of his best rides in the MotoGP™ World Championship, as he brawled with his teammate and Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) for the podium. Eventually finishing in second, Dovizioso started a run of three straight second place finishes in 2015. But in 2016 Ducati are looking to go one better, the Italian manufacturer still looking for their first victory since 2010. Much of the off-season has seen ‘Desmo Dovi’ and teammate Andrea Iannone focusing on improving the new 2016 Desmosedici GP with Casey Stoner also lending a hand in development. Both riders have completed a high number of laps and are quietly confident for the season.

Ducati have classically gone well at the Losail International Circuit, the 1,068 meter long straight playing to the strengths of their past machines. Having had three days of testing at the Qatari track already, the base level for all will be high and the four Free Practice sessions will be spent refining the bike’s setting. Winglets will again feature on the Ducati machine, the Desmosedici GP allowing for a total of four on the bike.

Andrea Dovizioso: “It’s great to start the season here in Qatar. Losail is a circuit where the MotoGP bikes can make the most of their available horsepower, because it is a very fast track and has a wide range of corners. It’s really different at night, when the temperature is perfect for the race. We have to be optimistic because in nine days of testing we worked well to set a good pace, and made a lot of progress in improving the feeling with the new Desmosedici GP. I’m quite relaxed about the start of the season, but I know that during the race weekend we will have to be quick to adapt to the Michelin tyres. It will be important to approach the weekend and all the new aspects in the best possible way, but I am confident for the race.”
