Marquez: “We are not far from the fight for the podium.”

Marquez: “We are not far from the fight for the podium.”

Big improvements see Marc Marquez much more optimistic about his chances in the Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar.

After a torrid time on Thursday, Marc Marquez was quite concerned about his pace and performance in Qatar. The Repsol Honda Team rider was unable to find the feeling nor the pace he had during the Qatar Test. Fortunately after improvements in FP2, Marquez and his crew found the correct direction to follow and in FP3 were able to set the third fastest time. The double MotoGP™ World Champion was able to set a best time of 1’54.835, 0.196s back on Andrea Iannone’s (Ducati Team) session topping time.

During the session Marquez managed two 1’54 laps, Iannone the only other rider to do more than a single 1'54. This has Marquez confident of a solid result come race day and he isn’t yet ruling out being in contention for the podium. After the doom and gloom of Thursday, the situation has certainly improved. Saturday will see the MotoGP™ World Championship first out for FP4, a critical session for race setup, before the Q2 battle commences.

Marc Marquez: “Today the feeling was like at the test we did two weeks ago. As soon as we went out for FP2, we changed the setup modification we made yesterday and I finally felt much better. We continued to work well, our pace is not bad and we entered directly into Q2, which is positive because this year everything is very tight on the timesheets. Tomorrow we must continue to improve our pace and we have to decide which front and rear tyre to use. From there, we will see if we can take another step forward. We are not far from the fight for the podium.”
