Quartararo: “I know I can go even harder”

Setting the fastest time on the second day of practice at the Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar didn’t come easy for Fabio Quartararo.

Fabio Quartararo was one of only two Moto3™ riders inside the top ten to improve their times during FP3, the Leopard Racing rider topping the session. Although his 2’05.859 was fast enough to lead the session, he was forced to settle for second on the combined time sheets, Livio Loi’s (RW Racing GP BV) FP2 time still the fastest overall. After first heading out on used tyres, Quartararo felt uncomfortable on the bike and returned to his box for alterations.

Fortunately these changes worked and the Leopard Racing man was able to set more laps and improve his time. The next session for the Moto3™ World Championship will be Qualifying on Saturday, again their only session of the day. Quartararo and the team are hoping to maintain their momentum and secure a strong position on the grid to start the 2016 season on the best foot possible, many expecting Quartararo to challenge for the title now he has joined the championship winning Leopard Racing team.

Fabio Quartararo: “Today was a difficult day for me because in the first outing with the used tyres I did not feel at ease. But after I spoke with Christian [Lundberg] and we made a few changes to the bike I noticed an improvement immediately once I climbed into the saddle. When we put the new tyre in, I got quite a scare when I put the wheels on the grass but I knew I had a couple more laps available to make the time and I did. I made a few mistakes, but I know I can go even harder."
